Artful Delight Friday - And how to make flatish sequins

TGIF!

This week I have a card and a little tutorial/discovery for you guys.

I really love the Hero Arts typewriter stamp that comes with the June card kit and I was kind of surprised with myself for not using it last week.  I was determined to get it inky for this week's card.

I had the basic layout/papers pulled together for the card very quickly, but I thought it needed a little pop of color, so I added the machine stitching.  When I did the machine stitching the first time, it came out kind of wonky and wavy....solution, go over the area again.  It adds some extra texture and the additional stitched line balances out the imperfections.

I decided to add some sequins too.  I happen to have a fair amount of sequins from Neat and Tangled.  I have regular gold and gold matte, but I thought it would be fun to add gold embossing to a red sequin so that you could kind of see some of the red peeking through.

Well, I got some unexpected results....when you heat cupped sequins, the cupped creases melt away.  They don't quite lie perfectly flat, but they are definitely no longer cupped.  Kind of a cool trick, and if you happen to have the cupped version of sequins in a particular color, and you want to mix up the textures a bit this is such an easy thing to do.

And just in case you're wondering how I heat/emboss sequins, I use my trusty craft tweezers:

I'm going to link this up to the sequins challenge at Let's Get Trendy Now!3.

That's all for me today.  Have a great end to your week!

  7. Serendipity! what a happy accident with your hot sequins (and brilliant idea to emboss them in the first place). The save (!) with the stitching looks great, too. Kind of like lines of text. Love it all!
