Star Wars Birthday and the First Day of School

Life is moving fast and furious here!  I thought I would pop in and share some pictures of Carina's Star Wars party from over the weekend.  I actually don't have a ton of pictures this year, Andrew ended up staying home because we thought it was a little too uncontrolled an environment to introduce a broken leg into, and some of my normal go-to helpers/friends weren't able to attend this year, but the kids had a great time.

Everyone got pool noodle light sabers (cut in half and decorated with duck tape and electrical tape).

We had an obstacle course that I managed to not get photos of, and we also walked down to the Nature Center at the park we had the party at so the kids could take in the animals they had there.

I have no idea what is actually happening here, but it all looks very serious....

More uses for light sabers:

She couldn't blow the candles out....

And then you come upon scenes like this....

The Death Star Pinata.  Not my finest work, so don't look too closely.  Basically if you are going to paper mache a giant (30") beach ball, after the first layer, you should do so one half at a time because it's too heavy and will weigh down the bottom part and get lumpy.  Live and learn.  But really, it's all about what's inside, right?

I did put on a ton of layers, it was really thick, so all the kids got to take a couple swings at it before it broke.

And of course yesterday was the first day of school.  We started it off with a special breakfast....I surf Pinterest each year looking for some creature to recreate in breakfast form.  Jury is out as to whether or not this is a cat or a dog.

New backpacks and lunchboxes courtesy of my mom:

First day outfits (the girls got to pick their own shirts this year, I was going to get them shorts too, but both said they didn't need them) and new shoes.

Exuberant First Grader:

And Fourth Grader who did not want me to take her picture in front of her classmates...

The girls seem to have had a great first day!
