Deconstructed Sketch #128

Slipping a card for the current Deconstructed Sketch in under the wire.

I pulled out some new goodies to create this:  the papers are from Glitz's Sunshine in my Soul collection, and the stamps are from Waltzingmouse's Fancy Feathers set.  I also used some of my favorites: vellum and gold embossing.

It's a little CAS and a little elegant, and this post is a lot quick. ;)

Thoughts and Prayers - and a BIG sale

I do so love the watercolor look, and I love how easy it is to achieve.

This card was a really quick and easy one to put together.  I used watercolor paper (and I get mine in the kids art department at Target....it's part of the Kid Made Modern line and it's a seriously great buy.    20 sheets for something like $3.99.  It's thick stuff too!

Anyway, all I did to create the background was cut the panel, then brush water onto the center portion, and then apply ink distress ink that I had pressed onto an acrylic block.  The center panel is a little softer and more even.  For that, I pressed my two colors of ink on to a block, spritzed it with water liberally and then pressed it to my paper and kind of swiped it across.  Then I just cut a portion of it out for the sentiment.

The sentiment is Verve and I added a little May Arts burlap string and American Crafts sheer ribbon to finish it off.

Ahoy! for AEI♥U Challenge

Just a quick post to share a card for this month's AEI♥U Challenge.

I used Avery Elle's Knotty set.  The boat was stamped and colored with Copics, which allowed me to add some details to the image, and then fussy cut.  Instead of adhering the entire image directly to the panel, I popped out the sail for some dimension.



The waves were created using PTI's sketched shapes set.  That is actually the long pennant that I shaped into a wave on the block.

Pretty CAS on this one.

Thinking of You for Friends with Flair

Hey everyone!  Hope that you are all recovering from over eating yesterday!

We had a very nice, quiet Thanksgiving here at home.  Today we'll be starting to pull out the Christmas stuff, bagging leaves, and doing a whole lot of stuff that has just got to get done, but I thought I would pop in and play along with Friends with Flair this week.

A very CAS card today.  I used what I refer to as reverse watercolor.  If there's a real name for this, feel free to enlighten me. 

I took a piece of water color paper and applied two complementary shades of distress ink - one at the top and one at the bottom, blending in the middle, and stamped the image with Versafine.  Then I used a water brush to remove color from the flowers so that they are lighter than the background.  I went back a few times, until I was happy with the amount of ink that I had removed.  This can tend to dull the color of the stamped lines, so I touched some of those up with a fine journaling pen.  Also, watercolor paper is highly recommended for this.  You can use regular cardstock, but depending on how much color you take off/how many times you go over the image, the paper will start to pill and degrade.

Once the panel was dry, I adhered it to a black mat and stamped the sentiment.

This is a fun technique and really doesn't require a whole lot of skill, but I think the results are quite striking.

Hello for Monday Mood Board

It's been a little bit crazy around here with last week's big happenings, so I wanted to just make a card for fun tonight.  I love the current Mood Board at WPlus9, so I thought I would break out some of my newest goodies and play along.

I've been wanting to get Fresh Cut Florals for a while now, and I am seriously in love with this set!  I die cut a bunch of pieces and played around with some different colors/combinations.  It takes a little practice and experimentation, this is my first multi-step floral stamp, so I'm learning along the way.

I loved the water color pieces in the mood board and used some gelatos to achieve a similar effect on that panel smoothing the colors out with a damp baby wipe.  Once it was dry I stamped the sentiment and then placed the flowers.  It looks like two pinks, but it's really my Sorbet ink in first and second generation.  I also used Honey and Creme Brulee for the flowers.  For the branches I used Sweet Leaf ink rocked and rolled in Topiary.

The Pink Lemonade Lawn Trimmings was the perfect way to finish it off!

So in love with this set, can't wait to play some more!

I have to say that what I love most about it is that I put my favorite items on there, and then when I craft around the house (nd I tend to do a fair amount of crafting downstairs while the hubby and I catch up on our DVR shows, I can just pick it up and bring it down with me and I have all my favorites on hand).  Saves me extra running up and down stairs.  

OK, since I've blinded you with my gory craft space, I figured I would leave you with a little eye candy.  A Christmas card I made a while ago that I just realized I hadn't posted yet.  Stamps are Hero Arts, and that twine is Teresa Collins that I colored red with a Spectrum Noir marker.
