Today I'm showing off some cards created with my new
Moving X Cover die. It's always fun to see your designs come to life, and I've been waiting for this one for a while. I love a good geometric graphic design, and this one was so much fun to play with.
I started by choosing colors for my initial card. I went with four blues and three greens. The cover was die cut once from each of these colors as well as from white cardstock.
When I inlay something large, like a cover, I always run a piece of printer paper through my Xyron machine to use as a base. The adhesive is great, and it ensures an even coat of adhesive. I placed my base 'X' piece over the piece of paper I sent through my Xyron, and went to work inlaying my design starting from the darkest blue moving to the lighter colors and ending with the darkest green.
I used the dark blue negative cuts/triangles to complete the design.
To make sure that everything was firmly adhered, I ran the completed panel through my die cut machine on it's own, and then adhered it to my card base. A sentiment from the
Be You Sentiment Strips finished things off.
The benefit to creating a card like this is that you end of with lots of extra die cuts, and I didn't want those to go to waste, so I decided to create some more cards. I did end up die cutting the cover plate a couple more times, including once from
Champagne Matte cardstock. Those pieces are featured on the next two cards.
The card on the left was basically the same as the initial card, except that I went in reverse color order, and I used the
Champagne Matte frame.
I changed the orientation of the X so that it's closer to the right to mix things up also.
The
Yay You sentiment was die cut once from
Champagne Matte and three times from the dark blue cardstock. The pieces were adhered together and then directly to my card base.
For the card on the right, I started with the lightest blue frame, and then alternated the
Champagne Matte pieces with the other shades of blue, using the dark teal for the negative cuts/triangles.
This time I went with a landscape orientation, and used the
Fancy Thanks die, cut from
Champagne Matte, for the sentiment itself and the dark blue for the shadow, popping the finished piece up over the cover piece.
Finally, I took the opportunity to create a couple more Christmas cards for my Christmas card stash since it's already October and I really need to get moving on things!
For the card on the left, I started with the X frame in the lightest green, and used just the greens as well as a couple rows of white.
I die cut the
Joyful from red cardstock, added a white shadow piece, and popped the finished sentiment up with foam tape along with the accompanying Sentiment Strip.
For the card on the right, I had an extra white X frame that I had cut before (this was actually Neenah White cardstock that I was going to color, but I ended up getting too caught up with the colored cardstock). I used a mix of the blues and greens, omitting one shade from each of the families that I had originally picked.
The negative spaces were filled using white cardstock.
The
Merry & Bright sentiment was cut once from
Silver Matte cardstock and twice from the dark blue, all were adhered together and then directly to my card base.
I also added a few silver stars which are part of the
Merry & Bright die set.
I don't tend to use nontraditional colors in my Christmas crafting that frequently, but I really love how this one turned out.
This was such a fun crafting session. I would have gone on creating backgrounds all day if I didn't have a pile of work to do.
