Last Publication with Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking

I wanted to share my final card published in Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking magazine.

This one was for the Get Inspired column in the February 2015 issue, and the inspiration piece was a Mardi Gras mask.

I was thrilled to have been invited to create for the column and I'm even more thankful now that I've seen the amazing cards that didn't get to be published.  Visit the PC&S blog here to see those cards.

This card was so much fun to create as it combined some of my favorite things:  stencils, embossing, and gold.

Publication Share - A Layout!

I was able to check another big item off my bucket list this year - get a layout published.  

I was a scrapbooker before I was a card maker, but I make so many more cards than I do layouts these days, so it was kind of nice to get a layout published.

This made it into Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking magazines final print publication, Photo Pocket Scrapbooking, Volume 2.

The photos are from my younger sister's rehearsal dinner.  She got married in Vermont, and what better dessert in Vermont than all you can eat Ben & Jerry's?

Hey everyone!

I'm busy working on some assignments and publication projects, but I thought I would pop in quickly today to share a card that was published in the Cool Tools issue of Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking Magazine.



I used a paper crimper to create the panels on the card, and stamps and dies from WPlus9.

Halfway through the week!  I can't believe that Halloween is Friday!

Publication Share - Piecing

Thought I would pop in to share with you a card that was published in the November issue of Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking Magazine.

Normally, I share a full card pic, but for this card I thought I would give you a close up so that you can see my piecing process a bit.

For this card I used a combination of piecing and coloring.

I try and plan it out a bit before I get started.  I want the piecing to make sense, so things that are in the front should be pieced on top of the others as opposed to all in one layer.

You can see from the photo that the arm is in front of the overalls as well as the pocket, which is pieced over top of the overalls like it would be in real life, same thing with the patch and heart on the knee.  Since the basket is in front of the arms, it's piece over top of the hands.

Now I'm not suggesting you have to do this with all your pieced images.  I've pieced tons of cards all in one layer, but if you're looking to add a special touch or make it a little more dimensional/realistic, this is one way to add it.

Back in May, I was thrilled to to learn that one of my cards was going to be on the cover of Papercrafts & Scrapbooking Magazine's Holiday Cards and More issue.

This has been one of my crafty bucket list items, and the fact that it happened with a print issue makes it that much more special.  

Here's a detail shot of the card - using Basic Grey 25th and Pine papers and an older Hero Arts sentiment.

Still pinching myself a little!

September Publication Share

Hey everyone!  I thought I would share one of the cards I have in the September issue of Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking.

I used Dreamweavers' Water Lilies Background stencil and applied paste to just a portion of the front pennant.  Then I carefully colored the paste with watercolors (I used Derwent Inktense pencils with a paintbrush).



The other layered pennants are vellum that was colored with Spectrum Noir markers, and the sentiment is from Verve.

August Publication Share

Hey everyone, it's been crazy busy around here.  I've been working on several things, including some new stamp designs (yay!), and other things that I can't show you just yet, but I thought I would share this card that was published in the August issue of Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking Magazine.

I was especially excited for this one since it's the first card that I've submitted to the sketch category that was picked up.

I used WPlus9 quilt cuts for the tangram elements and the sentiment is from My Favorite Things.  It's a little hard to see, but that black strip up top is some AC glitter tape.

We've had an incredibly busy week here at home and the next two look to be just as busy.  I really can't complain though, it's been all sorts of fun things.  We've just been enjoying the summer and all that it brings.

Love You Photo Pocket Card

Hey everyone!  I've been busy working on a bunch of things that I can't share quite yet, but I thought I would pop in and share a card that was published in the Photo Pocket Scrapbooking special issue of Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking magazine.

I used an Elle's Studio journaling card, some Basic Grey RSVP papers, and Taylored Expressions Skinny Alpha dies.

I love altering journaling cards and that's what I did here.  Obviously the sentiment was die cut, but I used a craft knife to cut around the hearts and pop them up for some dimension, and then mimicked the stitching that is printed on the card.  The hearts in the centers of the Os were just free hand cut from the same paper used on the background and I added some color with a sponge dauber.

Simply Amazing

Hey everyone, it's been a busy week here.  Lots of creating, but not a ton that I can show you right now, so I thought I would share one of my favorite recent publications.

This card appeared in the March issue of Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking.

It involves a total of two stamps (Ikat Additions from Avery Elle and Quite Like You from WPlus9) and one color of ink (Outdoor Denim from CTMH).

I LOVE generational stamping, and that's what's going on here.  While it might look complicated, this is a really simple card to make.  The one tip I will share is that once you are done stamping one side of the card, use a ruler to lightly pencil in some guidelines on the other side so that it looks like the rows on the top/bottom align.

Just popping in to share a recent publication with you guys.

This card appeared in the Stamp It! Techniques Volume 2 issue.  The challenge was to use sentiments in multiple ways on the card.

I used a bunch of Paper Smooches sentiments from slang gang as the background.  These were mounted on to a long acrylic block and I just stamped it repeatedly, varying where I started on the card so that it looks really random.

The Let's Chat sentiment is from PS's Perpetual Bliss set.  After several attempts at this, I found that the trick was to stamp the Let's Chat first, and then build the background around it.

Everything is going to be okay - Recent Publication

Sharing a recent publication from the Practical Solutions for Paper Crafters issue of Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking Magazine.

The challenge for this card was to up cycle something.  I decided to play with my alcohol inks and some of the plastic sleeves that stamps come in.  Mine are forever tearing at the seams, so I have an ample supply of them.



This is extremely easy to do.  I just applied three colors swiping each across the stamp sleeve and keeping them pretty much separate/no mixing.

Once the ink was dry, I trimmed off two strips of color.

After stamping the sentiment, I placed the strips over top of the sentiment, turning one so that the colors went in reverse.  This created a great blending effect where the strips overlap.

I've got one more card in this issue....it involves bubble wrap and gold embossing, but the issue is chock full of goodness, so make sure you pick up a copy!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!  We had a great time.  The girls actually slept in - we were the first to wake around 7, amazing right?  We enjoyed a relaxing day at home capped off with a great dinner with my parents in the evening.  Here are some of the goodies that I received that you guys might be interested in/excited about.



I'm hoping that that printer helps me do a better job with my scrapbooking this year!

Anyway, since I'm still recovering from holiday craziness and general over eating, I thought I would share with you one of my recent publications.  This card appeared in Card Creations for him.  Here is a link to the digital download, although since it's a Special Issue you can also purchase it in hard copy.

This one features Reverse Confetti stamps to create the background which I covered with Perfect Pearls, and a Mama Elephant sentiment.

Hello From Stamp It! Card Challenges

Hey everyone, popping in to share one of my cards that appears in the Stamp It!  Card Challenges special issue.

The challenge was to stamp one sentiment over another.

I immediately thought of the hello strip from Neat & Tangled's On the Strip set.  I used that as well as the skinny strip from On the Strip 2 to stamp those light gray lines.

The big Hello is from Uniko Studio's All Occasion Sentiments #1, I just love that font.

I added a little stitching and some Neat & Tangled sequins for interest.  I like mixing and overlapping the flat matte and cupped shiny ones.

Amazing Bubbles Card from Handmade Cards

Just popping in to share a card that was published in the recently release Handmade Cards issue of Paper Crafts.

I love this card, and I was so excited that it was picked up for publication.  I ripped off a crafty project that my sister had done with my daughters to create it:  adding food coloring to bubble solution and the blowing the bubbles onto paper/posterboard to create modern art.

In this case I used reinker instead of food coloring.

The stamp set is from CASual Fridays, and some Little Yellow Bicycle gems finished it off.

Thanks - PC Sept/Oct Publication

I realize that I haven't shared with you any of my cards from the current issue of Paper Crafts.  I was fortunate enough to have several projects picked up, but this is my favorite.

It was for one of the fall color theme combinations.

The images are from Stampendous' Summer Leaves set with a CTMH sentiment from Say it in Style.  The leaves were stamped using Jenni Bowlin paint dabbers in first and second generation, and then I used a craft knife to cut the tips of some of the leaves for dimension and to slide the ribbon in.

I end up submitting lots of cards to calls, and it's always interesting to see what does and doesn't get picked up.  This was my favorite from this submission round so I was thrilled that is was selected.

Sixy and Scrabble

I thought I would pop in to share one of my projects that was published in Paper Crafts Birthday Creations Vol 3.

I actually had two other projects in this issue, another card and tag, but this one is my favorite. 

Busy weekend here, a bit rough, but got a lot done and had some good quality time with the girls.
