Dry Embossed Succulent Journailing Card Die Two Ways

Hey everyone!  I'm over on the Neat & Tangled blog today with two cards featuring the Succulent Journaling Tag Die.

Rather than cut the die, I used it to for dry embossing.

This first card was hard to photograph, but I kept it very clean and simple.  You can see the embossing better in this close up shot.  I added a few mats to complete the look.



For the second card, I used a combination of watercoloring and Copic coloring to accentuate the embossing.  I started by watercoloring the different sections and then used Copics to add depth and texture.

Here's a close up.  I love the different looks you can achieve using this die, and you don't even need to actually die cut it!  The sentiments for both cards came from the Succulent Journaling Card stamp set.

Neat & Tangled July Release Week - Day 1 and Giveaways

Happy Fourth of July!  While I'm on vacation, Neat & Tangled is revealing our July release!

I've got several items in this release including a new Journaling card stamp set and coordinating die featuring succulents.

I'm showing off both the die and the stamp today.  I started out with the stamp set, and I kept it pretty simple and monochromatic, very simple copic coloring/shading here.  I used the Warm Gray family for this one.



Then I pulled out the die.  We added a coordinating die this time, to allow you to have a coordinating mat for your die.



I find coloring succulents can be kind of tricky, especially for the kind of purply gray ones.  What I did here was start with some gray cardstock.  I added some simple green shading on one end of each petal and then a bit of blue/violet at the tip of the petal.  Then I smoothed both colors out with the copic blender.  As a finishing touch I went over each petal with the lightest of the cool grays.



Then I cut the die from white cardstock also, adhered it to a light blue mat and inlaid the succulent portions.
