Welcome back for Day 2 of the June Neat & Tangled release! Today we're featuring a new set from Elena Roussakis called Beach Day.
The characters in this set are so cute, I'm using my favorite one, this bashful rhino with the goggles. I just love him.
The background was created using one of my new products for this release, the Rice Paddies stencil. This is one of those products I wasn't sure was going to happen. We had a lot of issues with the design since it's so intricate and it wasn't producing well, so it took several iterations with the manufacturer and a lot of extra time in Illustrator, but I'm really happy with the end result. While the design was definitely based on rice paddies, it works perfectly as water, don't you think?
For the background, I used a modified inking/Copic coloring technique. I first inked the stencil using Evergreen Bough Distress Ink. Usually when you color with Copics you want to use three shades of color for blending. In this case, the initial inking is the first shade, so I just needed two additional colors/Copics for the shading. Some of the spaces are very small and narrow, so for those I used a technique in which I took the lighter Copic, touched it to the darker to pick up some of the color, and then added the color/shading to the stenciled image.
I cut/layered a couple banners from my Scalloped die set to layer for the sentiment and popped that as well as the cutie rhino up over the background. This card makes me want to go to the beach!
Make sure you head over to the N&T blog to see what the full set looks like and to enter to win it, Danielle is giving one away to a lucky commenter.
I have several items in the release this month and I'll be picking some winners too. I'll be picking winners from comments both here and on Instagram. So leave a comment here each day this week, and then head over to IG (@mprantner) for an extra chance. I'll announce the winners on Friday. Come back tomorrow to see my new stamp set!

ReplyDeleteYour rice paddies stencil is fabulous; talk about versatility in using it for water, or marbling, or just 'as is' as a background to a large sentiment. As for the hippo: oh my stars! Cuteness galore!
