Happy Friday! I'm excited to be participating in Day 2 of the All The Joy release blog hop today. You should be arriving here from Kulbir Kirkland's blog, and I'll have the full hop list at the end of this post if you need it. As with any good blog hop there are prizes to be had. SSS is giving away a $25 credit to their store at every stop along the hop. All you have to do to be entered to win is leave a comment. In addition you can receive the Holy Stars stencil for free this weekend with any purchase using the code STAR.
OK on to my cards. Today I'm featuring my new Very Merry Cover. This is a great one for mass producing. You can really pump out a lot of cards without a ton of effort or thinking.
I started by die cutting my cover several times using white, navy, red, yellow, and two shades of green cardstock. Then I just started mixing and matching the pieces. I was having so much fun coming up with different combinations that I ended up die cutting a few more covers from black and red as well as some extra stars and ornament topper accents in order to complete a few more cards.
When I do inlaid die cutting as I did here, I like to use printer paper covered with adhesive from a Xyron Creative Station/Sticker maker as the base. This was adhered to the main die cut base piece/frame, and the rest of the pieces were then inlaid into the design.
Once complete, I'll place a piece of printer paper over my design to protect it, and run it through my die cutting machine. This ensures that everything is fully adhered in place, just kind of locks the design in.
I really could have gone on making these cards for quite a while and had to stop myself because there were so many other things in my box that I needed to create with as well.
I did want to share a couple other ways you can use this cover in a more out of the box fashion.
For this card, I created a faux tree using several of the words from the design as well as a star for the top of the tree.
Next up, I created a couple of standalone ornaments as focal points for these cards.
To create a base piece for the ornament, I traced one on some printer paper, and then cut out a piece that was slightly smaller than the ornament. Then it was the same deal, I applied adhesive and layered the pieces on top for the body of the ornament.
To add the ornament top/bow, I cut a strip of printer paper added adhesive to it, adhered the bottom to the piece that I had just inlaid, and then inlaid the remaining pieces to the top.
Just as with the full cover, I ran the completed ornament through my die cutting machine eto make sure everything was fully adhered and set in place.
These ornaments were then popped up with foam tape over my card bases/panels. Fir this first card I created a background using the Not Quite a Dot background stamped with Gold Delicata ink, and also added a few of the stars from the cover plate for accents.
This second card is a little simpler. I used the Falling Snow stencil and some Nuvo Moonstone Glimmer Paste over a soft gray cardstock and popped the ornament up over this panel once the paste was dry.
Hope I've given you some fun ideas for how to use the Very Merry Cover die.
