A while back Elena Roussakis challenged me to create a treat box for N&T, so I put my thinking cap on and this is what happened! Designing boxes is a lot of fun because it really makes me have to use my head and think.
This is not a small die. It's on the pricier side, but the nice thing is that it's one pass through your die cutting machine as opposed to some boxes where you cut two halves and then adhere them together. This is slightly longer than a regular cutting plate, so I used my extended plate, but if you don't have one, you can always partially cut and then shift the plate down.
There are lots of little extra dies included. This allows you to add detail to the outside of your truck. Add a little, it's up to you. Since there was space, we also tried to include some doubles of things like the tires, so it's just two passes through the machine as opposed to four.
You can assemble the truck as one solid piece, or, like I did here, cut openings for the windows using the coordinating dies. If you do this, note that you will have to trim the little flaps on the sides of the front windshield down so that you can't see them through the side windows.
The sentiment is from the coordinating Sweet Treats Sentiments set which is also great for little gift tags.
All the stamping and adhering of the coordinating dies was done before the actual folding/assembly of the box. To assemble my truck I use 1/8" Scortape.
For my truck, I thought it would be so cute to incorporate some Legos. The sizing is perfect for minifigs. I just found a baseplate that was about the size of the truck's bottom, attached the minifigure (he's sitting) and then dropped it into the box. Wouldn't these be perfect little gift/goodie bag items for a Lego birthday?
I also whipped up a card, because if you're going to spend that much on a die you want it to perform double duty don't you?
I partially cut the die to get one side of the truck, trimmed off the excess, added an embossed sentiment and flourishes (from the Sweet Treats set), and adhered some die cut details. I wanted this to mimic a UPS truck because who doesn't love seeing one of those arrive at your front door?
I used Copics to add a bit of shading to the hub caps and window.
The 'ground' is one of the stamps from the Landscape Textures set, and the secondary sentiment is from the Out of the Box set.
I think these little trucks would work great on tags too.
OK, that's all for me today, but please stop by the Neat & Tangled blog. Danielle is giving away a set of today's products to one lucky commenter. I'll be picking a winner for them as well. To be entered into my giveaway, be a follower and leave a comment. Head over to Instagram for extra chances. More goodness tomorrow!
