Spellbinders Color Block Backgrounds, Southwest

Hey all!  Just popping in to share a couple cards created using this very cool new cover plate from Spellbinders called Color Block Southwest.  It's part of a new Color Block Collection that was just released.

I really love this design and used it to create two very different cards.  First up, the colorful.  I die cut the background from five different cardstock colors and randomly assembled them to create a very colorful background.

For this card, I was going for a very bold look and also mixed some different shades to add interest, so a very limey green along with a very rich red, a more subdued deep orange, an orangey gold, you get the idea, I wasn't trying to stay within the same tonal family.  I think this makes it more dynamic.

The sentiment was stamped on the center piece which was popped up for a bit of dimension.

Next up, it's all about dimension.

This time, I die cut the background several times from white cardstock.  There are four radiating parts to this design.  The little corner piece I left untouched, but for each of the ensuing layers, I added another thickness.  So, for the second outermost piece, I adhered two pieces together to create a thicker piece.  For the next row I adhered three pieces, and for the center row/ring, I actually adhered four to make it really stand out.

You can get a better sense of the dimension in the photo below.

I finished things off with a very simple sentiment stamped in the center of the card.

What do you think?  Which is your favorite?
