Happy Thursday! There's a new release available at Simon Says Stamp today. It's called Cozy Hugs, and as you might imagine there are lots of holiday/wintry items in the mix.
I was immediately drawn to this Scalloped Birdhouse die. Simon has released several bird dies over the last few months (there a couple new ones in this release too), so adding a birdhouse into the mix makes a lot of sense.
I die cut the birdhouse itself from a light blue cardstock and the accent pieces from white.
The bird inside is from an earlier release, it's the Layered Chickadee. I used a soft gray for his body, black for the accents and eye, and white for the beak which I then colored with Copics.
After he was assembled, I adhered a slightly darker blue cardstock to the back of him, adhered them both to the back of the birdhouse, and set the piece aside.
For the background, I used the Falling Snow stencil, spreading paste through it over a panel of soft gray cardstock. This is one of those staple stencils that I turn to over and over again.
Once the stenciled panel was dry, I adhered it to my card base. When I did this, I added a piece of neutral twine at the center of the top edge and taped it down in the center of the panel.
The birdhouse piece was then adhered to the panel, covering up that tape.
I then added the white trim pieces to my birdhouse. The circle was adhered directly to the house, but the roof and the bottom piece were popped up with foam adhesive.
The sentiment, from one of the older Sentiment Strip sets was also popped up.
That's all for me today, but there is lots more inspiration upcoming. Be sure to head over to Simon to check out the entire Cozy Hugs release!
