Combining Background Stamps

I have a thing for background stamps, and have recently picked up several new ones from Simon Says Stamp.  I really wanted to put them to work, and figured why use one when you could use two?

Each of these cards feature Distress Ink blended onto watercolor paper.

For this first card, I blended Picked Raspberry, Worn Lipstick, and Festive Berries onto my watercolor paper.  I then stamped the Friendship Text Background with Worn Lipstick over the blended background.

Next, I stamped the panel with the XOXO Background using Versafine.

To finish the card off, I trimmed the panel down and mounted it to a black mat.  For mixed media type backgrounds, if I'm not popping them up with foam tape, I use double sided tape like Scortape to adhere the panel.  It's just a little stronger since often those panels warp a bit and are harder to adhere.

The sentiment is from Neat & Tangled's Love You set.  It was stamped with versafine on a white, but it felt a little too stark, so I second generation stamped the Friendship Text Background with Worn Lipstick over top.

On this next card I inked my panel with Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn, Evergreen Bough, and Salty Ocean.

Next, I heavily misted the Open Grid Background with water and stamped it onto the panel.

After this dried, it was stamped with the Spring Flowers Background inked with Versafine.

I once again added a simple black mat to really make the panel pop and finished the card with the You Matter die which was popped up over a black cardstock circle.

To add a little extra interest/texture, I stamped/embossed the Open Grid Background on the circle with clear embossing powder.

For this last card, my panel was inked with Twisted Citron, Salty Ocean, and Faded Jeans.  I once again stamped the panel with the Open Grid Background, but this time used less water.  The effect is much more subtle.

The Friendship Text Background was then stamped with Faded Jeans ink over the panel.

I let the panel dry overnight to make sure I wouldn't have any embossing powder interaction with the distress ink.  The next day I stamped and embossed the friends sentiment, from an Ali Edwards set,

The secondary sentiment, from that same friendship set, was stamped with Faded Jeans on some white card stock that I had lightly inked with a bit of Twisted Citron and then fussy cut and popped up.

I really love the texture and layers you get when combining backgrounds.  Hope you'll give it a try!
