SSS Good Luck Charm, Wavy Circles Background

Hi friends!  I'm super excited because it's Good Luck Charm release day at Simon Says Stamp, and even more excited because a few of my designs are in today's release!

Here's a look at them all:

Today I'm featuring the Wavy Circles Background.

I love a good background stamp, especially those that can be both the star of the show as well as just a good old fashioned background.  Because of how graphic this one is, I think it fits the bill on both counts.

I wanted to showcase the same basic technique for both of today's cards, but mix it up a little to get two very different looks.

Let's start with the bold card.  I first stamped the background with some Altenew black dye ink.  I didn't pay much attention to getting a good stamping.  I knew that I wanted to ink the background and just needed to know where my half circles were to line up the stripes.

Once that was done, using some Post-It tape to mask things off, I inked each row of half circles with different colors of Distress Ink in a rainbow pattern.  I used:  Festive Berries, Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Mowed Lawn, Salty Ocean, and Dusty Concord.

Once that was done, I placed my paper back into my stamping platform (I had left the stamp in place), and stamped again using Versafine.  This time I was trying to get a nice solid inking.

The background was then trimmed down, and I added the new Basic Card Box Happy Birthday die to finish things off.

I used the same technique for the second card, but this time I used kraft cardstock, and inked the background with white pigment ink.

I'm sure I broke some rule about blending Distress Ink over pigment ink, but that's what I did.  For this card, I inked my colors in the opposite direction, so following the rows of half circles where they are on their sides as opposed to standing upright.

I used the exact same Distress colors for the kraft version of the card as the original.

The panel was then placed back into my stamping platform, and again stamped with white pigment ink.  Just like the first card, I finished it \ off with that same Basic Card Box Happy Birthday die.

This is a really easy technique, and I am loving how different these look.  Which is your favorite?

I have LOTS more to share in the next couple weeks with these new goodies.  Be sure to head over to Simon to check out the full release.  See you back here tomorrow!
