SSS Happy and Joyful, Lined Background Happy Birthday

I've got another card to share today using my Lined Background for the Simon Says Stamp Happy and Joyful release.

You guys seemed to like my card misadventures from my last post, and this was another one of them.  I got a set of muted watercolors a while back, and I wanted to try watercoloring the different rows of lines with a different shade of the watercolors.

It didn't quite give the effect I wanted.  I think it's partly the watercolor paper.  I was at a Hobby Lobby over Christmas and picked up one of their watercolor pads and I feel like the water doesn't blend/spread as well as with my normal Canson.

I almost just chucked the panel, but then decided to see what I could do with it.  I added Black Soot distress ink around the edges of the panel.  I love how this gives the panel a bit of a glow.

Next I decided I needed a bit of splatter, and I thought that gold would play well against the background colors.  I used Hero Arts Gold Glimmer Metallic Ink.  I thought I might have over-splattered, and was about to put the panel aside again, but I had already die cut the Happy Birthday die.  Something about the combination of the Gold Matte for the sentiment and Glossy White cardstock for shadow piece really made the background pop and vice versa.

I'm really happy with how this turned out, another lesson that sometimes you just have to keep working at it and find the right combination of things that make one another shine.

Have a lovely Tuesday!
