Simple Stenciled Christmas Card

Hi all!  I've been busy creating samples for the upcoming Simon Says Stamp release on Friday, but had a little bit of time to create a Christmas card this weekend.

I love the look of paste, but often want to color/paint it.  I've created a bunch of different cards where I watercolor the paste once it's dried (you can see a couple examples here and here and here).  You get a great fresco type look, but it does take some time and you have to be quite careful with your watercoloring.

I'm quite sure that someone else has already discovered this technique, but I had my own personal 'aha' moment this weekend when I thought why not just spread paste OVER the inked design.

I started by carefully inking the Christmas Wreath stencil using Blush and Lucky inks.  I used Simon's Detailed Round blending brushes because they were smaller areas.

Once that was done, I wiped off my stencil, put it back into place, and spread embossing paste through the stencil.  This was just your regular embossing paste and it looks opaque when applied, but when dry the color shows through.

Once the paste was fully dried, I added the sentiment, from the Holiday Greetings Mix 1 set embossing it in gold twice to get a puffier look.  You want to make sure that the paste is fully dried before embossing, because if paste is still wet it will puff a little when you use a heat gun.

The finished panel was popped up over my card base.

As compared with my other watercolored paste cards, this technique is much faster and you get a simpler, cleaner look.

Thanks for visiting.  Stay tuned for the Simon release on Friday, I have a couple new products in this release and can't wait to share them with you!
