SSS Dear Friend Release, Modern Heart Quilt - 3 Ways to Color

Happy Friday, and Happy Release Day!  The Dear Friend release from Simon Says Stamp is live today and I'm excited to have two products in this release including the Modern Heart Quilt suite of products that I'm highlighting today.

There is a 4x6 stamp set, a coordinating die, and a set of six coordinating stencils.  You can purchase them separately or in bundles.

Today I thought I would show off three different ways to color in the heart image.  First off, basic Copic coloring.

I used two families of colors, a purple group:  RV02, V04, V05, V05, and V17, and a pink group: RV13, RV14, R19, and RV19.  Within those groupings there was a lighter and darker version sliding between the darker and lighter shades.

This is a pretty easy image to color because the shapes are basic, not too big, and not too large.

The image was die cut using the coordinating die and then popped up over my card base.  The sentiment is also from the set.

Next up stenciling.

I started by stamping the image with a very light colored ink, Fawn.

Then I pulled out my coordinating stencil set as well as two sets of the new mini ink cubes. Rose, Peony, and Carnation from the Pink Blooms set, and Charcoal, Earl, and Flannel from the Gray Skies set.

Another of the sentiments from the set was stamped and popped up over the image.

Last up, a technique that I have not visiting in almost a decade, washi tape.

For this technique, you start by stamping the image on your cardstock.  Next, washi tape is placed over an individual space/shape.  Then, using a craft knife, carefully cut around the shape and remove the excess washi tape.  This is definitely the most time consuming of the techniques shown today, but for an image like this it's pretty easy since the shapes have nice straight edges.

That's all for me today, but I also wanted to share with you my other design in this release - Hey Girl.

My friend Cheiron actually asked for a die with this phrase and I was happy to oblige.

Be sure to head over to Simon to check out the whole release, and I'll see you in a couple of days with some Hey Girl cards.
