Cards for Grayson

Hey everyone!  I want to make sure to let you guys know about a little guy named Grayson.  You may remember that Danielle at Neat and Tangled had a card drive for him a while back.  He had been diagnosed with brain cancer and she had hoped to bring him some smiles with your cards.  The drive was a success! Grayson and his brother, Aydan, LOVED the cards! They received over 200! His mom, Jackie, wrote a little about the joy it brought them in her own blog post HERE.

Since then Grayson has undergone chemotherapy and had relative success in that his very aggressive tumor has not grown, but it also has not shrunk. This is hopeful news though because the chemo was at least making the tumor “behave”.

Last weekend Grayson was involved in an accident at home which has left his foot severely injured. They are unsure if it will need to be amputated or not, and the entire situation is further complicated because of his cancer.  His chemo has to be put on hold until they can decide what to do about his foot. Until then he is staying in the hospital. You can read it in Jackie’s words HERE.

Danielle is restarting the card drive for Grayson.  As before you can send cards to Grayson, his big brother Aydan, and/or the entire family.  Please NO “Get Well” cards, just funny, happy, cute encouraging cards to bring a smile to their faces.

Birthday cards for Taylored Expressions (and Andrew)

Happy Sunday all!  Popping in to share a couple birthday cards I created for Taylored Expessions birthday Tic Tac Toe challenge.

As many of you know my husband Andrew is a teacher.  This year he asked if I would be willing to make birthday cards that he can give to his students.  It's a tall order.  He has six rather than the normal five classes this year, and that means at least 150 students.....even if some of them have their birthdays over the summer, that's still a lot of cards.  Andrew is pretty darn supportive of my crafty habit and doesn't often make special crafting requests, so I'm going to see if I can keep up with all the birthdays....as a result you're likely to see a lot of birthday cards here this year.

Anyway, this was the perfect opportunity to make a couple cards for the stash since the middle of the Tic Tac Toe board is 'make a birthday card'. 

This first one was super simple and easy.  I used the Fruity Friends set.  Colored the watermelon with a Spectrum Noir and a Faber Castell marker, added some ribbon and gems, and done.  I could definitely make a set of these too since there are all sorts of different fruits I could substitute out for the watermelon.  This was for the rhinestones/birthday card/ribbon row of the tic tac toe board.

The next card was a little harder - I fussed with it a while.  This one is for the buttons/birthday card/patterned paper row of the board.

I used an old embossing folder I have and I confess I'm not really sure what folder it is, but it's from Sizzix.  The paper was made using TE's notepaper stamp.  The alphas are TE's skinny alpha and number dies and the owl is from the July 2013 Stamp of the Month.  I wanted to add a little definition to him, so I added some simple outlining/shading with a precision point pen and used some Liquid Glass on his glasses.

Some twine and buttons finished that one off.  We've had a fun weekend, got some things done around the house and some relaxing too.  I'm taking the girls for the three and six year old photos this afternoon,  hopefully they will cooperate....

100 Days of School - Layout of the Week

I didn't get much crafting in this week, but at least I'm still on track with my plan to scrap at least one layout a week.  In honor of school starting, I thought I would scrap Ellie's 100th day of school. 

Since i wanted to include Ellie's 'hat' from school, which is pretty large and bold, I opted to go with a very simple layout otherwise.

I used Amy Tan's Sketchbook collection.  I added some of my own doodles to the frame that is printed on the paper to ground it a little with some more black.  One of the zip strips doubled as faux washi, and I cut one of the frames from another sheet of patterned paper for the journaling.

Artful Delight Friday - You are So Amazing

I was pretty excited to see that we had a whole bunch of Glitz's Dapper Dan in this month's Artful Delight kit.  I just love Dapper Dan - with two girls there's a lot of pink and purple in my life, so this month's kit is a great way to explore some of the rest of the color wheel.

I used the September card sketch for this card:

Anyway, a very CAS card today.  I used the Dapper Dan woodgrain paper for the front, and a great neutral grid pattern from Simple Stories for the base.  That blue woodgrain paper from My Mind's Eye is a larger print and had a really graphic modern feel to it.  On it's side, I think it looks like sky/water.  Some chipboard clouds from the kit, the thick twine, and a sticker sentiment finish it off.

Busy, busy, busy!

I meant to post this weekend, but the time just got away from me.  Thought I would share a few photos of what has been keeping us busy:

Artful Delight Friday - Thanks!

I can't believe August is almost over!  Today's card was lots of fun to create.  I really wanted to use that great number paper from The Pier, and I paired it with the blue woodgrain paper. 

I cut the circle elements using my Creative Memories Custom Cutting system (it's old school but it works).  The white mat is actually from another of the Pier papers.  I wanted something not quite white white, and not quite off white, since it's from the same collection, the 'white' matches perfectly.

A little bit of May Arts burlap string added some balance to the card.

Mesmerized by the Lawnmower - Lily Bee Sketch and Simon Says Stamp Dotty Challenge

Hey everyone, trying to stay true to my goal to do at least one layout a week.  This week I'm playing along with a couple challenges, and continuing to work on some photos from our family vacation last summer.  I'm actually making a dent in those photos, and am hoping to be done relatively soon (don't ask about the Budapest/Hungary trip...).

Here's the Lily Bee Sketch:

I'm using papers from Lily Bee's Destination collection as well as a sheet of CTMH cardstock in Buttercup.  The circles were all cut with my old CM custom cutting system circles, and I did a fair amount of stitching on this one too (it's a little wonky...my stitching and curves is not always the best combination).

For most of the decorative circle/chevron elements I pulled out Ronda Palazarri's Well Rounded stencil again.  It's such a versatile stencil and I used three of the different circle elements.  For the chevrons I cut an arrow shape from a scrap piece of paper and used a sponge dauber with gray ink, dabbing away from the arrow.  It's subtle, but I think it works.

Since I've got lots of polka dots/circles on this one, it's perfect for the Monday challenge at Simon Says Stamp.
