Hey everyone! I've got a super quick and easy card today featuring the Fern Corner die from Simon Says Stamp's STAMPtember release.
I started by die cutting the cover plate from a piece of Tim Holtz Watercolor paper that I had previously inked up with a variety of Distress Inks.
Fun fact, this was a piece that I created using my 'extra' inks. When I am making panels, I am generally working on a primary panel. This is the one that I might spray, swipe an ink pad over, smoosh into fresh inks on my craft mat. Once I am done creating that primary panel, there's usually still a lot of leftover ink on my craft mat. Rather than let all that ink go to waste, I'll take another panel of watercolor paper and press it into those inks, spritz with water, press again, etc., until I use up all the color there. Because I'm not adding new ink to my craft mat, while I still get some great variations in color and texture, these secondary panels are generally a little lighter/less vibrant than the primary.
This card uses one of those secondary panels.
The die cut is A2 sized, so my plan was to adhere it directly to my card front.
The die cut really stands on it's own, but to give it a little oomph and dimension, before adhering it, I positioned it over my card base and used a pencil to trace a few guidelines so I knew where the leaves would be. Then I went in with a light gray Copic marker (C1), and added some shading to the base piece. This was done in a totally unscientific loosy goosey way just to get a hint of shadow.
It's really subtle, but I think it elevates the die cut piece and makes it pop a bit more.
Once that was done, the die cut was adhered, and I added a sentiment from the Well Wishes stamp set.
Super easy!
