Now for something new

So yesterday I was using old things, today I'm turning my attention to something new and unloved.

I have a terrible habit of needing things, getting them, and not using them.  So over the weekend I picked out one of those new items (this thank you stamp from Studio Calico) and decided it was going to get a day in the sun.

Really simple.  I used a Cosmo Cricket watercolor tag, added some loose watercolors and then some gold and black splatter.



Then I finished it off with the sentiment stamp (I used my MISTI to make sure that I got a good inking) and also clear embossed the sentiment.

A quick and easy tag to add to my stash, and I used something new in the process!

Today is a Great Day

I've been playing with some more Cosmo Cricket goodies.

I pulled out a watercolor tag and my resist pen, and using a guide, added a resist strip every 1/2".

Then I watercolored some stripes using Pixie Paint.  The stripes are offset, so you get the resist from the pen as well as some overlap between the two colors.

The feather is from the WIP Art Deck.  It was also painted using the Pixie Paints and then fussy cut.  I adhered it over a couple of pieces of vellum and added some machine stitching around the mats as well as down the center of the feather.



For the sentiment, I cut up a sentiment from another WIP Art Deck piece and added watercoloring.

The tag was then popped up on my card base.

Neat & Tangled / Cosmo Cricket Collaboration Week

Hey everyone!  I'm really excited about this week over at Neat & Tangled.  We're working with Cosmo Cricket products!

They pair so well with Neat & Tangled, and I had a great time creating today's projects.

First up, a card featuring Doily Tag and our Celebrate die.  The Resist Pen is used for just that, you can write on paper and then watercolor and the written portion will resist the watercolor.  BUT, you can also use it as an embossing medium.  Now since you write it and it almost comes out like a liquid glue, it's not an even surface, so if you are looking for that, this isn't the best application for you.  Here I wanted a more textured uneven surface, so this was perfect.



I added a bit of color to the center of the tag using some Swatch Sticks, and then added a bit of splatter with a Dylusions Ink Spray.

For the background, I used an older Cosmo Cricket 12x12 paper with resist patterns.  This particular pad isn't available any longer, but there is an 8x8 and a newer 12x12 pad.  I again used swatch sticks to add a light wash to the paper and a bit of splatter.

The patterned paper was adhered to a dark gray mat, and I popped the doily tag up with foam tape after adding the Celebrate die which was cut three times, once in gold mirrorboard and twice with cream cardstock.  A few gold sequins finished it off.



Next up a simple card using one of the designs from the WIP (Work in Progress) Art Deck.  I love this little deck of designs, there are a variety of sizes and it's great for quick and easy cards.  For this one I chose this sweet little tag, and then added some stamped flowers from the Paper Cut Flowers set.  Rather than use regular ink, I colored the stamp with Swatch Sticks, spritzed it a couple times with water and stamped.  I like the soft, loose feel you get with this technique.

Once I was done stamping, I used the waterbrush that comes with the Swatch Sticks and added color just around the word wildflower so it would stand out.

Simple Hello

I got some great goodies from Cosmo Cricket a few weeks ago, and have been experimenting with them.  I posted a pic of this card on Instagram the other day, but thought I would share it here as well.

This is one of the quickest card ever.  I used one of the little snippets from the Work in Progress book which contains cut apart pages with a variety of patterns/phrases in clear or gold resist.  This allows you to easily add watercolor to get some great effects

I was drawn to this fun pattern and added color using their Swatch Sticks

I thought the panel stood well on it's own, so just added a vellum mat and a simple sentiment from Altenew.

Super quick and easy!

Neat & Tangled and Cosmo Cricket

Neat & Tangled is collaborating with Cosmo Cricket this week.  I'm so excited about this team up!  Cosmo Cricket is one of my favorite paper companies, and their Just Add Watercolor line is amazing!  I'm working with the 12x12 paper pad which includes full size sheets as well as several cut apart sheets.  I could not stop at just one card, so I've got three to share today!



The top and bottom strips of this first card were created using one of the cut apart sheets.  I used Kuretake Gansai watercolors on all my projects today, and used a couple shades of blue and pink to create the pattern.

For the main panel I masked off the So Very Blessed sentiment and stamped it with dye ink, then stamped over top with Versamark and clear embossed.  Using a not too wet brush and just a touch of soft blue, I added a wash over the sentiment.

Then I added a couple of torn pieces of vellum beneath each of the watercolor patterned pieces to soften them and stitched them down.



For the next card I wanted to see if you could emboss over the embossed patterns.  Happily, you can! I embossed the sentiment, on one of the 4x4 cut apart pieces and added some watercoloring and then let it dry.  The secondary sentiments were embossed in gold and popped up.



Finally, I had to pull out Origami Map since it lends itself so well to watercoloring.  For the background I chose one of the 12x12 patterns and added a rainbow of watercolors to it.  Then I stamped/embossed/die cut the Origami Map and added rainbow watercoloring in the reverse direction.



I layered the map over a black die cut and popped the entire piece up as well as the sentiment.



These were so fun to make.  Playing with that Cosmo Cricket watercolor pad was addicting, don't be surprised if you see some more of these cards here!
