Watercolor Paste Stenciled Cards

Hi folks!  I was in the mood to do some experimenting over the weekend and pulled out a couple of my recent stencils - Receding Blocks and Geometric Circles.

Using mixed media paper, I applied embossing paste over each of the stencils, removed the stencil, and let the panel dry.

Once that was done, I used my Kuretake Gansai watercolors to color the paste.  The paste really soaks up the water/color and if you apply color too darkly, you can add water and blot to remove some, or deepen the color by adding more paint.

Fort this first two cards, I used the same Receding Blocks panel, but cut it apart to get two cards.  I wasn't super careful when painting these, so it's a less precise and a little more organic, but I really love the fresco like feel of the panels.  

The sentiment is from the So Many Sentiments set.

For the second card, I changed up the orientation and then added a sentiment from the No Words set which was popped up over the panel.

For the Geometric Circles Stencil, I changed up the color scheme and forced myself to slow down a bit so I could be more precise with the painting.  

This panel reminds me of tile.

The sentiment for this one is also from So Many Sentiments.

These really quite easy to create, and I really love the texture you get with the technique.

Neat & Tangled February Release & Giveaways - Day 3

It's Day 3 of the Neat & Tangled February Release.  Today we're showing off my new cover plate and stencil design - Geometric Circles.  It's no secret that I love geometric designs.  There are so many different interpretations and shapes you can create with geometrics and I think this one is so flexible and has so many possibilities.

I'm not gonna lie, this first card took a while and was way fiddly, but I think the results look pretty darn cool.  I cut the cover plate from white cardstock.  Then I channeled my inner Laura Bassen and colored the pieces in a rainbow progression with Copics.  In case you're wondering about the colors, here's what I used: RV69, R29, R08, YR07, YR04, Y17, YG13, YG09, BG13, B05, BV04, V09.

Then I used the die cut cover piece as a guide and adhered all the pieces to the card using foam adhesive.  The nice thing is that none of the pieces get too small so it wasn't too terrible to get done.  You could certainly just inlay the pieces to get a similar look with a lot less trouble.

I finished it off with a sentiment combining our Awesome die (cut three times and stacked together) and a sentiment from the new So Many Sentiments set.

To show off the stencil I used another of my favorite stencil techniques - partial cutting.  I laid the stencil over my panel, traced just a portion of the design, and then cut the pieces out with an exacto knife.  This technique is perfect for geometric stencils because you can really tailor it and create new shapes and motifs by selectively using portions of the stencil.

The design was backed with a couple pieces of patterned paper from one of my old (and cherished) BasicGrey 6x6 pads.  I added a sentient from So Many Sentiments and then trimmed a little sliver off of the bottom of the panel so that it's grounded a bit by the black card base.
