Last of the Daily Marker 10 Day Coloring Challenge Cards

 

Today I'm sharing cards created using the last of my colored images from Kathy Racoosin's 10 Day Coloring Challenge.  

The first card features this a nice big sentiment from Paper Smooches Well Wishes set.  It was very simply colored, and I kept the finish simple too.  I used an older MFT die to create a scalloped mat for the colored panel and added a soft gray mat over the card base.

This next card features the Floral Fantasy cling stamp from MFT.

I love the dramatic/vintage look of the image and colored it with a more unexpected color using my Blue Green Copic family.  The leaves/stems were colored with Neutral Grays.

I trimmed the panel down and added a simple dark gray mat.  The sentiment which I managed to kind of mangle when stamping (the one time I don't use the MISTI.....) is from Papertrey Ink's Choose Joy set.

This last card is my favorite, featuring Janes Doodles Read All About It set and a journaling card from Felicity Jane.

The images were fussy cut.  That book on the right actually is actually part of the stack on the left.  I just cut it off of the stack to help balance the card a bit.  The books were adhered directly to the journaling card, and the little boy was popped up with foam tape.

I added a large fishtail banner using an old MFT die set as well as a patterned paper mat.

And that's the last of my Coloring Challenge images!  I have all sorts of new things that have arrived recently, so I'm hoping to be able to dig into those happy mail packages this weekend!

Friend Like You

Hi friends!  Today's card started out with this adorable little lamb called Wooley by Stacey Yacula for Purple Onion Designs.  I originally had him stamped dead center on a panel, but then I decided I wanted to do something less boring.

So, I colored him in (white animals might just be my favorite thing to color) using Copics: N0, N1, N5, and R11 for his cheeks.  Then, to mimic partial die cutting, I cut my panel using my paper trimmer to either side of where his feet hit the ground line, using detail scissors to trim around him.  

The background was created using Paper Smooches Power Rays die.  I inked a piece of white cardstock with Scattered Straw and then Mustard Seed Distress Ink, and then die cut.  This was adhered to a piece of light blue cardstock that I inked with a bit of Faded Jeans and then Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink.

I cut a piece of dark blue cardstock and adhered it over the bottom of the faux partially die cut/stamped image, and added a sentiment from a retired My Favorite Things set.  This was then popped up over the Power Rays die cut piece.

To finish things off, I added a little red die cut heart, also from Paper Smooches.

It's always kind of ufn to see where creating takes you when, and I love being able to mix and match old and new products.

Fun with a Craft Knife

When I had my Pinkfresh Indigo Hills 2 pad out the other day, this sheet of geometric shaped paper caught my eye.

I love the mix of rectangles, squares and triangles.  They are relatively random, so I thought I would inject some additional randomness, by cutting out some of the solid white shapes with my craft knife.

This was pretty easy to do with this pattern since everything is straight lines.  You just need to be careful not to cut out two shapes that might meet in a corner.  

After trimming down my completed patterned paper panel, I backed it with a piece of black cardstock.  I love how you get a totally different pattern and look with those new negative spaces.

I wanted the background to be the star of the card, but I needed a sentiment large/bold enough to match it.  This sentiment from Paper Smooches' Inhale Exhale set was just right.

The sentiment was stamped on a piece of white cardstock, and I added a black cardstock mat behind it.  I dithered a bit about where to place the sentiment, but ended up going with the bottom right.  

I'm really enjoying playing with my patterned papers these days.  Hopefully this trend continues, because I have  A LOT of patterned paper to use up!

Hello, You Are All Kinds of Awesome

The Indigo Hills 2 6x6 pad from Pinkfresh Studio is one of my all time favorites for cardmaking.  The papers are beautiful, and they do a lot of the work for you.

Today I pulled out one of my newest Paper Smooches dies, Hallow Hello.  The includes an outline as well as a solid base which makes inlay so quick and easy.  

I started by die cutting both layers from white cardstock, and then also die cut a piece of ombre patterned paper from the 6x6 pad.  I ran the solid base piece through my xyron sticker maker, adhered the outline on top, and then inlaid all the patterned paper pieces.

The background paper is also from the Indigo Hills 2 pad.  The pattern kind of fades out, and that transition area was the perfect place for the die to fall.  

I added a secondary sentiment from the So Many Sentiments set from Neat & Tangled, and finished things off with a sweet little heart which is one of the little bonus dies from the Hallow Hello die se.

Super quick and easy!

Hallow Hello, Paper Smooches Wise Dies

Need Hugs?

Remember yesterday when I said I was going to put my extra polaroid images to good use?  The dog and the sun/cloud were two of the images I originally stamped to potentially use with my polaroid camera in yesterday's card.  

Since they are both Paper Smooches images, I thought I would use them together on a card, but then I decided I needed a third polaroid to balance them out, so I created another with the snuggling cats. The cats and the dog are from the Comforting Hugs set, and the sun/cloud are from the Sunnyville set.

Just like with yesterday's card, the polaroid frame is from Concord and 9th's Oh Snap! set.  I had stamped the image on a Post-it note which was fussy cut and used as a mask over the frame when I stamped the critters.  

I used a simple print from a Crate Paper 6x6 pad for the background, arranging the photos on top, and adding a sentiment from Comforting Hugs.  Super easy.

These PS images make me smile, and I think this one is perfect for this season where everyone could use some extra hugs and human contact!

Simple Stenciled Backgrounds for Your Stamped Images

Hi all!  I'm sharing a set of cards today featuring your basic stencils and stencil paste on kraft.  I had a bunch of images that I've colored over the last week or so as part of Kathy Racoosin's 30 Day Coloring Challenge and wanted to put them to use on some Christmas cards.

I love the look of white stamping and embossing on kraft, and basic embossing paste creates essentially the same effect, with some wonderful texture too.

I started out by creating my stenciled backgrounds using Dreamweaver white embossing paste over Papertrey Ink Kraft cardstock.  When I"m creating backgrounds I'll cut my panels to a full A2 size, 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" even though I rarely use them that size.  Often when you stencil a panel the edges aren't quite as crisp as you might want them, so this gives me the opportunity to trim them down to get that nice finished edge

The embossing paste may warp the cardstock a little, so to make sure that the panel was good and stuck to my card base, I used liquid adhesive, the kind you have to kind of pump and the blue liquid comes out, and placed a book over top while it was drying.

I used both stencils that have more 'white' space where there's more paste showing as well as stencils where the design leaves more kraft showing.  For this first card, I'm using my Star stencil for Neat & Tangled.  

The image is from a retired Neat & Tangled set called Little Baby Jesus, and the sentiment is from Altenew's Peach on Earth set.  Both the die cut image and sentiment strip are popped up with foam tape for a bit of dimension.

The next card features my Radiating Star stencil for Neat & Tangled.  When I created the background for this one I didn't realize there was a bit of red ink/spray left on the stencil form the last use, so there's a bit of a rose glow to the background.  I decided I liked the look, but that's why you don't see a more pure white in the background.

The image is from another retired N&T mini called Angel Wing as is the sentiment.

I needed a slightly larger sentiment strip because of the size of the sentiment, but it looked a little too white, so I added a bit of Copic shading around the edges to soften the look.

Next I created a panel using my Fa La La stencil, also from N&T.   

This snowman couple from Paper Smooches' Cool Dudes set was perfect for the background as was the sentiment from Hello Bluebird.

Finally, I used the Tim Holtz Pines Layering Stencil to create this last background, pairing it with one of my very favorite Christmas/Winter Images, the Merry Kisses set from N&T.

The sentiment is from Hello Bluebird, and I used one of the banners from the Scalloped Dies set from N&T.

These backgrounds are quick and easy to create and are the perfect backdrop for your colored images.  I really love how the balance but don't overshadow the images.

Paper Smooches You Are My Sunshine

As soon as I saw the Sunnyville set from Paper Smooches, I knew I was going to have to pick it up, it's got the cutest images and such uplifting sentiments.  This sun and cloud are my favorite from the whole set, so I needed to ink them up first.

I kept things pretty simple for this card.  Just added some distress inking around the edges, leaving the center pretty clear.  I used Squeezed Lemonade, Mustard Seed, and a bit of Fossilized Amber.

The image and sentiment were stamped with Gina K Black Amalgam Ink, and then I did added some simple Copic coloring (Y06, Y08, Y19, B000, R20)

Super quick and easy, but this card makes me smile.  Hope your Monday is off to a great start!

Wish You Were Here

I'm delving into my supply of new and unloved items today.  In this case, they are new, but actually pretty old as I have had them for a while and haven't managed to pull them out until now.

First up, I pulled out a 3D embossing folder from WRMK.  These things are the coolest ever!  I just love the results, and this design in particular makes geometric loving me particularly happy.

I started rooting around for something to go with that embossed piece and found this old journaling card from a Studio Calico Documenter kit.  The geometric background and the color scheme fit perfectly.

Next, I needed a sentiment.  Originally, I was looking for a stamp, I wanted a bigger sentiment, but nothing was standing out.  I ended up way back in my bin of stamps/dies and found this old sentiment die from Simon Says Stamp.  This is a design from Kelly Purkey back when she was working with them.  

For a pop of color I added a little heart from Paper Smooches.  This little heart actually gets a lot of work at my house.  It comes in a set, but it's the perfect accent size and I find myself reaching for it often.

I added a white mat to my journaling card to help it stand out and popped it up over that embossed piece.

Super quick and easy, and a great guy card too.

Love You the Mostest

This might be a new record.  I ordered some new stamps and I used them within two weeks of purchasing them.  This almost never happens, but really, this llama is just so cute and I needed to stamp him!

The nice thing about llamas is that some of them are white, so there is very minimal coloring if you go with a white llama.  In this case I really just added a bit of shadow and that was it.



For the background panel I watercolored using Dylusion Ink Sprays.  Using the Ink Sprays is a really quick and easy way to watercolor a background and the colors are so rich and vibrant.

The sentiment is from my favorite PS sentiment set, Uplifters.
