One last Two Peas CHA layout

 

Finished up one more layout for the Two Peas CHA challenges.  This one is a two-fer, for Challenges #5 - Five senses and #9 - Nine older pieces.

This is actually a layout I have been contemplating for a long time, and it fit in perfectly with the senses challenge.  You needed to create a layout using one or more of the senses as a jumping off point.  Carina is like all kids, what she says and what she means to say are often not the same thing.  We love these 'Carina-isms' and while I'd love to get them all recorded on video, I often don't have my phone/video camera with me, and she is also at that age where she doesn't necessarily want to cooperate with my picture/video taking.  So, I thought I would create a layout to record some of our current favorite Carina-isms.

I'm also using lots of old in this layout.  I have a bad habit of buying tons of thickers and washi tape and not being particularly good about using them.  So I'm redeeming myself with this layout and giving some overlooked supplies the opportunity to shine.

I used Avery Elle's Oh Hello stamp set to create the speech rectangle and I fussy cut around Carina in the photo and off set her a bit to create some dimension/shadow.  That photo totally cracks me up.  It's actually from Christmas and she was looking up at the tree, but it was perfect for this layout.

Oh, and just in case you're wondering what these all mean, here's the key:

Two more Two Peas CHA Layouts

I was able to finish a couple more layouts for the CHA challenges over at Two Peas.  I have to say that it feels good to scrapbook after a bit of a layoff.  When I get busy with projects/things at home scrapbooking tends to be the things that drops off the plate first.  These challenges have been kind of shot in the arm to get me back in the swing of things.

Anyway, this first layout is for Challenge #2:  Two People - to scrapbook the relationship between two people.  Not unexpectedly I chose to scrapbook the relationship between my two favorite subjects.  When we were in the 'family planning' phase I wanted to have kids two years apart, but we ended up with three years in between and I have to say I think it's kind of perfect.  The girls really do love one another.  They are typical siblings and definitely know how to and do push one another's buttons with great frequency, but they also genuinely love and take care of one another.

I'm using a combination of Elle's Studio's You & Me line and Glitz's Hello Friend collection.  The banner at the bottom was created by punching half circles with a circle punch.  Just put your strip of paper in about halfway and punch.  So easy to do.

 

I traced the Glitz cloud pieces on some of the You & Me papers to create a shadow for some definition, and used a bunch of different foam thickers for the title.  In the grand scheme of thickers, foam are my favorite, mostly because they ALWAYS stick and don't come off.

My second layout is for Challenge #8 - Eight straight lines.  These photos are from a little 'date' that Ellie and I had last summer during our family vacation.  Everyone else went to a nearby park/beach, but I wasn't in the mood, so I decided to stay back and Ellie stayed to keep me company.  We had a sweet afternoon together, took a walk, played a little, and relaxed a little.

Echo Park's Sunshine mini collection was perfect for this layout.  My eight straight lines are pretty straightforward.  I cut thin strips of the chevron paper, doubling them up and stitching them down to create columns as the basic design element.  A few stickers from the Sunshine collection added just a bit of interest.

That's all for now.  I'm hoping to maybe get one more layout done, but we'll see....

The Grinch

I've done so little scrapbooking lately, I have really been missing it, so I decided to play along with some of the CHA challenges going on at Two Peas.

I pulled out my older Hollyday collection and sifted through the stack of photos I have on my workspace and got going.

This first layout is from this past Christmas.  We watch the Grinch multiple times each year, but the first showing is special with special snacks, lights off, more movie style.  I created this layout for Challenge #6 - Use 6 layers:  I have three layers of patterned paper, one layer of vellum, the photo layer, and then the embellishment layer. 

This was a really quick and easy one to put together.  I added some stitching as well as fussy cutting of the flowers from one of the papers in the Hollyday collection.

This second layout is from several years ago.  We had a pretty large snow storm and in the whole freeze/refreezing process we started getting some leaking in the sunroom windows, so Andrew had to go out and clear off some of the snow from the roof and break up the ice a bit.

I'm entering this layout into Challenge #1 - Use one color.  The challenge said to pick one color, but that you could use neutrals/black/white/gray as accents.  I flipped it a bit since gray was my color, so just a hint of green to add highlights. 

I'm still in a scrapbooking mood, so expect to see some more layouts in the next week.  Hope you are having a great weekend!

Three more NSD Layouts

Popping in to share three more NSD layouts today.

These are for the Two Peas challenges that close today.

This first one is for Be Inspired by a Garden Girl Challenge as well as Studio Calico's By the Numbers challenge.  I was inspired by Shannon Tidwell.  I had participated in her Sassy Scrapping class last year, and so I'm drawing a little from those lessons too.  One of those lessons was to take one embellishment and just saturate your layout with it.

Here I took out all my white/black/neutral thickers and used the '2's from those sets.  The large 2 is from Pretty Little Studio's Sandcastle collection and I added a bit of doodling to that and around the edges.  This layout came together amazingly quickly.

The journaling basically says that one should never leave my daughters alone with stickers....I think you can see why....

This second layout is for both the Focus on Photos and Be Inspired by a Garden Girl Challenge, and I'm also entering it into Studio Calico's go transparent challenge (since I used some vellum).  For this one I was inspired by Paige Evans, specifically this layout.  I loved the idea of turning photos into pennants.  I pulled out some older photos of Ellie who was just over a year old at the, time.  She was just starting to walk and on this particular day headed all the way up the front steps to the front door (we have a lot of steps, about three stories worth).

I used a MME 6x6 pad, some Elle's Studio Tags, and vellum pennants.  Then I cut some of the edges of the doilies and added those at the top of the banners and stitched them all in place.  I left the strings long, looped them around and added some LYB sparkles.

This last layout is for the Refer to Your Bookmarks (Pins) challenge.  Here's the layout by Corrie Jones that I was inspired by.  I loved the technique and sized it up to take up most of the page.  Instead of the paper stars/brads, I used sequins that I just stitched over.  The mists are Dylusions.

The photos are matted on some Ruby Rock-It papers and vellum to soften them.

Complementary layouts - start of the Hungary/Romania album

Andrew commented several weeks ago that I had not yet started scrapping the photos from our anniversary trip last summer.....gulp.

So, I ordered up the first set of prints, and I used NSD to motivate myself to get working on them.

I've always created stand alone albums for our major vacations.  They tend to be a little different than my normal layouts.  I like them to be more of a travelogue.

- I keep a journal when we are on vacation, with copious notes and the layouts have a LOT of journaling.....my goal is that it's almost educational for the reader (and a good reminder of the place/culture/history when I go back and read it).
- I like to keep and include all sorts of paraphernalia/ephemera from the trip....not sure how easy it will be to incorporate that stuff this trip because the language is so different and almost nothing was in English that it's hard for me to figure out which receipts go with what at this point.
- I like the album to be somewhat cohesive.  In the past I've used a particular collection throughout to tie it together.  I don't anticipate doing that for this album, but I did decide that I was going to use white cardstock for the base of each of the layouts.
- There are a lot of double page layouts.  Where the layouts aren't specifically double  pagers I try and make them complementary, like with this pair.

This first layout is of the Citadella in Budapest, situated at the highest point in the city you get an amazing view from there.  The Citadella itself dates back to the Hapsburgs, although the monument which is now called the Statue of Liberty was actually erected by the Soviets and called the 'Liberation Monument' when they gained control of the region following WWII.

I was unable to take a shot of the entire monument because of the height/short distance to the railing in front of the monument, so when I got the photos I decided to create a collage out of them.  I've done this before, but usually more of a panorama with several photos where you end up with a long rectangle/strip.  I decided to just leave the photos in this kind of funky shape because I like the lines of it, and it left some natural areas for journaling.

After I finished that page, the next location to document was the Hungarian White House.  This one is a bit more 'square'.  Since I want to have a cohesive look when you open up the book, I used the same supplies from the first page, but not all in the same way.  The mist that was used for the splatter on the first layout was randomly misted on some white cardstock to create mats for the photos as well as a background for the title.  I reused the SC paper from the first page as well as the vellum, and the same thickers, but in white.  To add some contrast and accentuate the idea of 'white', I colored the top of the 'THE' thickers with a black Spectrum Noir marker.  I would have just used the black ones, but I was out of Ts.

The LAST 2011 Christmas Layout

This is it! I've officially finished all the Christmas layouts from last year, it truly is Christmas in July!

This was from our outing to the National Zoo a couple days before Christmas. In the evenings, they light up the zoo, it really looks pretty amazing, and they have some additional activities too, like ice skating (on a fake ice surface), a little train, stuff like that.

Carina's favorite thing? A guy dressed in a panda suit dancing in an air-inflated snow globe. Yup. She would have stayed there all night, but Panda Man had to take a break, and we took the opportunity to pry her away from the snow globe.

Anyway, I'm using Echo Park's Season's Greetings Collection. I used a busier paper, and to tone it down and kind of frame the photos, I used some of CTMH's Create-a-Shade Pearl Paint. I've seen people do that with regular paint, what I hadn't really figured on is how translucent the Create-a-Shade is (this was my first time using it). So it really added more shine, than toning down the paper. It's hard to see on the photo of the entire layout because of the reflection of the camera's flash, but you can get a better idea from the detailed photos.



I was going to use my sewing machine to stitch frames around the photos with black thread, but I can't for the life of me find my black thread. Plan B was to create a frame around the whole page using thin strips of DCWV Textured Adhesive cardstock. Then I used cream thread to stitch down two adjacent sides of the photos (I can't believe I finally stitched on photos....part of me finds it kind of sacriligious, but I'm glad I finally bit the bullet and did it).



Most of the embellishments came from the Season's Greeting Collection pack, although I did add some Cranberry grosgrain and Glitter Chipboard Thickers.





I do like the way it turned out, and I'm so, so, happy to have crossed Christmas 2011 off my list of things to scrapbook!

Matching Game Layout

This is another one of those layouts where I ended up with a gazillion collections, kits, and embellishments all over the the floor in the family room while I picked and chose from them. I'm also continuing to get comfortable with mixing and matching patterns and collections, in fact, there is almost no plain cardstock on this layout!

I love these photos and wanted to get them scrapped. They are from this past March. Ellie had closeted herself in the master bathroom (so Carina wouldn't bother her) and came out with her own matching game! I have no idea what possessed her to create her own game, but I was so impressed. Her matching pieces actually match, and it was so touching to see how proud she was of what she had created.

The pocket is kind of hidden. I used a glassine envelope that I got from the Curtsey Boutique Etsy store. I dressed it up with a little washi tape from Target, and then attached it to the page using that fun cloud/heart washi that came in a Polka Dot Whimsy kit. Since the little pocket is so full, I ended up needing three layers of dimensional foam tape for the photo on the left.



There are a variety of papers from CTMH, Bella Blvd, and GCD as well as a bunch of Elle's Studio tags (the blue chevron ones on the left side of the page are actually the same one, I just cut it in half so I could get a little more mileage out of it). The bracket and flower pieces are actually stickers (one is Crate and the other is Bella Blvd). I cut small circles to go in the centers because the Crate one was more of an off white color, and there was actually some writing in the center of the Bella flower that I didn't want to use.






It's a busier layout than I normally do, lots more elements, but I think it works. Thanks for coming by, hope you are enjoying your weekend!
